Data Release Number (DRN)

What is a DRN?

A Data Release Number (DRN) is a unique identifier assigned to individuals applying for financial aid. When you complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), a personal DRN is generated for you — serving as a security code to access your financial aid information in the future.

Why is it important to know my DRN?

When logged into your federal student aid account, you must provide your DRN to review or revise your Student Aid Report (SAR). Without this code, you cannot adjust eligibility information (such as your EFC) accordingly. Consequently, you could receive less aid than you are qualified for.

Your DRN also safeguards your information, ensuring unauthorized individuals cannot access your SAR.
