Nursing FAQ
The ADN program
The associate degree in Nursing program is a part-time selective admission program, that current eligible Goodwin University students may apply to. Upon completion of your degree, students will take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) to become a licensed RN.
This is a part-time curriculum that is 5 semesters long. Students will complete 5 essential courses (one per semester) along with clinical assignments, this consists of one lecture day and one clinical day per week that may take place on any day.
ADN courses are only offered on-ground.
LPN Bridge program
The LPN Bridge program is an accelerated LPN-RN program for licensed LPN’s. The program is 4 semesters long. Students will complete 5 essential courses along with clinical assignments. LPN’s will complete their first semester, taking NUR 190 and NUR 195 online at Charter Oak State College.
We accept applicants for spring and summer semesters. We do not accept LPN applicants in the fall.
You will begin clinical rotations in your second semester while taking NUR 200.
Clinical site information
Students will be given an online form listing all clinical options and will be asked to rank them by most to least wanted. The order in which students will be placed is randomly generated and each student is placed to a clinical site according to their choices.
Once clinical placements are complete, if you are not satisfied with the day, time, or location of your clinical site, we will allow you to switch with someone in the clinical group you prefer. It’s the student’s responsibility to reach out to other students when inquiring about a switch. If you are unable to find someone to switch with, you will remain at your original placement.
Clinical facilities include hospitals/medical centers, nursing homes, schools, and community settings.
- First shift: 6:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.*
- Second shift: 3:30 p.m.-12 a.m.*
* These times are for reference only and actual times may vary between each facility.
Once the University has received confirmation from all clinical facilities, we will release clinical picks. This time varies significantly and is dependent on when we hear back from each facility. Clinical picks usually take place 2-4 weeks prior to the start of the semester.
Application and selection process
Nursing applicants who have satisfied all of the admission criteria will be selected according to the point system.
Students are ranked according to the following criteria:
Total Score - Completed Goodwin courses - GPA
Each semester we receive roughly 300+ applicants. We select the top 64 students.
Decision letters will be mailed to applicants a week or two prior to registration for the upcoming semester. Please see the application for specific dates.
A new application becomes available within the first few weeks of the start of each semester. Please contact the nursing department or your advisor for exact dates. The application can be found in the associate degree in Nursing section of the Goodwin University website.
Students have a maximum of 6 attempts to apply to the ADN program.
TEAS exam - ATI testing
Your TEAS exam score is due roughly one month after the application deadline. Please see the application for the exact due date.
Registration dates, directions, location, and testing dates are provided on the application and are changed every application cycle.
Exam costs vary by location. Visit atitesting.com for more information.
Due to COVID-19 all TEAS testing is done remotely (subject to change per application cycle).
No, applicants may only test for the TEAS ONCE per application cycle. If you are unsatisfied with your score or have failed, you will need to wait until the next application cycle to retake your test.
If you have previously taken the TEAS we will always use your highest TEAS score when scoring your application. However, if you take the TEAS test multiple times in one application cycle, we will use the first score submitted even if subsequent scores are higher.
TEAS scores are accepted 5 years from the date of exam completion. TEAS Scores must be transferred to “Goodwin U ADN” for review prior to the due date.
