Cynthia J. Murphy received a Master of Arts in English from Trinity College. She is currently ABD pursuing her PhD at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. In 2021, Cynthia received the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence in Teaching Award. Her most recent paper presentations include “No Expectations are Low Expectations? Comparing Educational Attainment Among Students with High, Low, or Noncommittal Expectations” presented at the 2021 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Conference and “Renegotiating Identity: Changing Narratives of Self-hood and Student Attainment” presented at the 2020 UMass Lowell Virtual Student Research & Community Engagement Symposium. Cynthia’s next challenge involves completing her dissertation, which builds upon many of the UDL principles and practices, bringing Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) pedagogy to higher education.
