The ASC is true to its name and was a breath of fresh air for me. I always found math challenging, and when I was introduced to the ASC and my tutor, I was in my second semester of Math 095.The tutors empowered me and ensured that I would overcome my academic struggle. They do any and everything in their power to guarantee the success of their students. They aren’t just tutors. They are people who have once been in our position and can relate to us. If it had not been for the ASC, I wouldn’t have the drive and confidence that I have today, and for that, I am thankful. The resources and help I was given made me the student that I am and will someday make me the nurse that I aspire to become.
All of the tutors in the ASC are extremely warm and welcoming with students who need their assistance. You can see the passion we have for working with students during our tutoring sessions and how much we truly enjoy it.
Working as a desk assistant for the ASC and Math Lab has not only been a rewarding experience, but an enjoyable one too. As a non-traditional student, I faced obstacles that I have now been able to overcome because of my work here. I became more aware of the resources offered to Goodwin University students and challenged myself to take advantage of them in order to become the best student I could be. It has also afforded me the opportunity to encourage others to use the resources in the ASC and Math Lab to assist them in meeting their goals. In addition to the academics, I have been able to inspire students with a smile or an encouraging word as they make decisions about school and life.
When I began my studies at Goodwin University, I was not well-versed in math. When I started working as a math tutor, though, I was able to work with other tutors who had such great knowledge and wisdom in the subject. This helped me gain the confidence I needed. Now, I am able to help students with a subject that created a lot of issues for me. I truly enjoy being able to see students pass their math courses and move forward in their educational and professional lives partly because of me.
I have been utilizing the tutoring at the ASC almost every day for two years now. What I like the most is interacting with the tutors because they inspire me and push me to do my best. Because of the English tutors, my grammar, writing and PowerPoint skills have improved. During my first few semesters at Goodwin University, I was getting C’s on my writing assignments. Now, I am getting A’s and B’s, and it is all because of the support that I have received at the ASC.
My time as a professional tutor has been extremely meaningful because not only do I get to work with a team of bright and down-to-earth tutors, but many diverse and eager students as well. I sought this position because I wanted to spend my time helping people. What I didn’t expect is that I would learn just as much from my students as they have learned from me. The patience, flexibility and communication skills that I have built catering to so many different students have benefitted me greatly. Each day of working with people of all ages, cultural backgrounds and learning styles has been a rewarding experience. The environment in the ASC is comfortable and the compassionate nature of the staff there promotes learning.
I began utilizing the ASC when I was taking my NUR 110 course. Since then, I have found the tutoring to be a great addition to my lecture and clinical experience. The tutors are extremely knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, easy to work with and have real world experience. Because of the time I have spent in the ASC, I have been more successful as a student. The tutors offer great test taking strategies and explain how to interpret what the test questions are asking. Their help has not only improved my academics but my confidence as well.
The tutoring services I have received in the ASC have been nothing short of spectacular! The knowledge of the material and the enthusiasm for learning that the tutors have is contagious. They make it easy to learn the content and they take their time with explanations and answers to my questions. There’s been one particular tutor that I have worked with that has made a huge difference in my nursing studies. He has helped me think outside of the box, given me the confidence I needed when I wanted to give up and led me to persevere. The tutors are a true asset to students regardless of level or experience.
Last semester, while taking Chemistry, I noticed that I struggled with some topics more than
others. My professor had office hours, but I feel as though it is not enough and it is not enough
one-on-one. I went to the ASC, and felt as though it had made a huge difference not only with
how I was able to retain information, but it had made a big difference in my grades as well.
Before I was getting 5 or 6 out of 10’s on weekly quizzes, after tutoring in the ASC, I got my
first 9 and 10 out of 10’s! I feel as though tutoring has definitely helped me out as it is more oneon-one, gives more time to focus on the topics you need help on, rather than a big study group,
and the tutors are accommodating to suit different learning styles to suit your learning
techniques
