If you are looking for a rewarding career in the healthcare field, dental hygiene may be the right fit for you. It’s the career for students pursuing an associate degree in dental hygiene, and it has an expected 19 percent growth rate within the next decade. The current salary for dental hygienists, on average, is up to $71,520 per year, $34.38 per hour. With the aging baby boomer population and ongoing research into oral health, the value of dental hygiene professionals is being recognized more than ever.
The Goodwin College Dental Hygiene program is designed to equip students with the skills to become professionals ready to assist the public and the community by providing clinical and therapeutic services as well as oral dental education. The program is centered on evidence-based learning with the theoretical foundation and hands-on classwork that prepares our students for the workforce and engenders an appreciation for lifelong learning.
Dental Hygiene program students must be able to perform all functions and tasks required of a dental hygienist. As part of the curriculum the student would be asked to fully participate in all clinic/rotation/community service activities. Because Goodwin has its own state-of-the-art dental hygiene facility on campus, our program doesn’t require a typical dental hygiene internship.
However, in addition to the real patient experiences at Goodwin’s dental hygiene clinic, students perform services at numerous community enrichment sites. These outreach programs provide valuable services for the community, and allow students to learn in multiple environments. Goodwin students have provided clinical services, screening, and more at:
- West Hartford Senior Center
- Glastonbury Senior Center
- Elmwood Senior Center
- Betances School Dental Clinic
- Martin Luther King School
- Moylan School Dental Clinic
- Asian Studies @ Dwight/Bellizzi Molar Express
- Hartford Public High School
- Sand School Dental Clinic
- Simpson-Waverly School
- WINNCO Senior Housing
- East Hartford WIC
- Locust ECE CRT
