Goodwin College Announces Accelerated BSN Program Offering
By Dan Williamson, Director of Admissions
Goodwin College has announced the addition of an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) degree to its expanding list of career-focused, educational opportunities. The new program empowers students who have already earned a non-nursing bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university to be prepared for a nursing career in as few as 16 months!
“Students in accelerated programs are highly motivated,” said Vivienne Friday, ABSN Program Director at Goodwin. “And employers desire accelerated graduates because of their maturity.”
The push for an ABSN program came about as part of Goodwin’s support of the Institute of Medicine’s “BSN-in-10” initiative that seeks to see 80% of registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree by 2020. Goodwin’s 60-credit ABSN program is designed to put students on the path to becoming registered nurses in as little time as possible, while instilling the skills and knowledge necessary to provide quality patient care. Students who complete the program will be ready to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) and begin working in the nursing field right away.
Through the accelerated program, students with no previous nursing experience are rapidly prepared for a variety of workplaces in the nursing field: home health care services, hospitals, nursing care facilities, doctors’ offices, and schools, to name just a few. Students acquire the knowledge necessary to become advocates for patients, families, and communities. They will endorse a holistic approach to patient wellness and quality care through critical and creative thinking, ethical decision-making, and evidence-based practice.
Classes begin in the fall 2019 semester with a fast-paced hybrid program that allows students to do coursework at school, at home online, and in the field. Those interested in learning more about pursuing an ABSN can visit the Goodwin website at www.goodwin.edu/absn or contact the Admissions Office at (800) 889-3282.
